Based on a book by Thomas Cullinan and directed by Sofia Coppola, “The Beguiled” stars Nicole Kidman, Colin Farrell, Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning. The all female cast (apart from Farrell) and the colour reminds me of Sofia Coppola’s previous masterpiece of a film “The Virgin Suicides” (1999). I hope this film is at least half as good.
It’s a remake of a Clint Eastwood movie as well.

Yes, thanks for pointing that out 🙂 I should then hate this film because generally I do not like remakes. However, knowing Sofia Coppola and her penchant for “all girls vs. the outside world” narratives, I cannot imagine anyone else directing this film but her. Have you seen by any chance the 1971 film?

No, I haven’t seen the film.

I am excited to see this! I recently saw the original Eastwood film, but I think it’d be interesting to watch the same story told from a female perspective. Also, Sofia Coppola’s take definitely looks more developed in terms of characters, and slickly produced.

Me too! I hope I will also soon see the Clint Eastwood film for a comparison. Thanks for commenting!

I just saw Nicole in “Lion” . She can be very good.

I agree. Since I saw her performance in “Rabbit Hole” I knew she could be unbelievably good.

you’ll have to see Lion. I think it may be an Indy film? Not sure. I’d not seen any hype about it, but it is showing in one theater here. None of the others have it, so if you can find it, check it out. It’s bases on a true event. I cried pretty much all the way through.

Yes, perhaps I should see it, thanks. I’ve seen the trailer, and this true story is really moving. It is just that I think this film came in a time when such stories do not ring as completely original or breathtaking anymore – with all this global politics, wars and people displacements going on. And this is especially true after the Slumdog Millionaire’s win in 2009. I think this movie would have fared better if it came out years earlier. I am sure the movie is brilliant, it is just that its impact could have been even more pronounced.
