  1. Very interesting list. For me, I’d put movies such as Grave of the Fireflies, Camp de Thiaroye, Sophie Scholl: The Final Days, Mother of Mine, and In This Corner of the World (the anime version) on a similar list.

    1. You are very right. I intentionally left out any animations, otherwise Grave of the Fireflies and In This Corner would have been at the very top of my list! They are both great, moving. I can’t recall watching either Mother of Mine or Sophie Scholl…I will need to, thanks!

      1. Okay. Thanks for explaining when it comes to the animated issue. The live action movies I mentioned are definitely worth your time and are very powerful in their own right. Sophie Scholl is a biopic about an anti-Nazi activist in Germany who’s considered a national icon in that country. Mother of Mine is a story involving the Finnish perspective of the war and how there was a whole generation in that country who were “war children” that were under foster care in Sweden which was neutral during WWII.
